There is no safety net for bravery.

There is no safety net for bravery.

Time for a pop quiz. Just one question...Ready?

Q: If I were braver I would be doing _________________________.

Are you living your best life or are you living a fear-based life?  What’s holding you back from doing the things know you were meant to? Sometimes life sends us little wake-up calls. If we’re paying attention we pivot when we recognize them. Sometimes we hide because they are hard or present a challenge we are not ready to face. What would have to happen in your life for you to finally overcome the fear that's holding you back? What steps can you take right now to move closer to those goals?

Being brave isn’t a black or white thing that some of us just have and others don’t. Being brave isn’t about having no fear, it’s about not being totally consumed by it. We all experience fear and even though we sometimes wish we didn't, without it we would quickly become reckless and a danger to ourselves and probably those around us too. Being brave means we accept the fact that many of the things we will do are going to be scary, uncomfortable and unpredictable. Will there will be failure and heartache along the way? Of course, but there will also be times when we will feel great joy, utter triumph and a deep sense of accomplishment. There is no safety net when it comes to bravery but in order to succeed we have to remember being completely safe is an illusion. When we seek total safety too rigorously we wind up in a world constricted and that’s the problem with trying to be completely safe. The safer we try to become the more restricted our safe zone ends up becoming. The more sensitized we become to perceived threats the more we will eventually perceive everything as a potential threat. So unless total isolation is our desired outcome we must seek bravery.
