The Surprising Gift of Anxiety

A lot of people are reporting anxiety this week. The pandemic. The stock market. The neverending list of things changing about our daily lives and livelihood. 


The natural inclination, when we feel fear or anxiety, is to judge it as a bad thing—something we want relief from as soon as possible. But what if we were to think differently? Anxiety is wired into our human systems for a reason. And a good one. When there is danger, we need to be cautious and alert. And right now, that alertness is what we need. 

So instead of wishing our anxiety away, maybe it's an excellent time to appreciate the incredible benefits of having this human tendency. It's going to alter our behaviors and sharpen our scrutiny at a time when that could save many lives.
